Wine of the Week: Canard-Duchene Champagne and Tacos

Champagne and tacos? Yes, please! I’m celebrating Cinco de Mayo with tacos this weekend and have decided to pair it with a Brut Authentic Champagne from Canard-Duchene. These tacos are full of bold flavors, including salsa and spiced meat. The best way to cleanse your palate with spicy flavors is with a wine that is low in tannins and high in acidity, which is why this crisp, citrusy champagne was a great match with this dish.

Wine of the Week: Canard-Duchene Brut Authentic Champagne

This Brut Champagne would quite honestly fit just about any occasion. They describe the style of this champagne as “where freshness and intensity bring together nobility and nature” (I couldn’t have said it better myself). It tastes of citrus, with flavors of apple and lemon. The bright acidity and refreshing finish balances out the spiciness of the tacos perfectly.

Canard-Duchene is a french champagne house that was born in 1860 and is still one of the few wineries in Champagne to be family-run.

Baked Crispy Tacos:

Cinco de Mayo wouldn’t be the same without tacos, am I right? This dish is full of flavor and easy to make. Enjoy!

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 packet taco seasoning
  • 1 can (14.5 oz) can diced tomatoes
  • 1-2 cups cheese (Cheddar Jack Mexican Kraft is my favorite)
  • 15 flat-bottom crunchy taco shells
  • Toppings: shredded lettuce, tomatoes, guacamole.
Preheat oven to 400 degrees F. Brown and drain meat. Stir tomatoes, taco seasoning, 1 cup cheese, and salsa into meat. Arrange tacos in pan, fill each shell with the meat mixture. Sprinkle remaining 1/2-1 cup cheese over the top. Baked 15-20 minutes. Top with lettuce, tomatoes, and guacamole (as desired).
